Monk vow to remain with Brum

- BY NEIL MOXLEY

GARRY MONK will stay on at Birmingham – even if the club are relegated.

The former Leeds boss confirmed the news ahead of this lunchtime’s crunch clash against Fulham.

Monk, on a three-and-ahalf year deal, is reported to have a break clause in the contract, allowing him to move on.

But he insisted that whatever the outcome, he would want to remain.

Asked if it would be his last game, he said: “No, not at all. I came here because I think I can help.

“I’ve signed a contract beyond this season. What does that say to you?

“I don’t want to get into it. It’s not about me. But I’ve come to this club because I want to be at this club.

“I’ve no intention to be anywhere else and I want to do my best.

“I don’t want to be the headline. ‘Garry Monk stays’ or ‘Garry Monk is going to be here’. I want it to be about the game.

“That’s why I don’t want to talk about it. I want the focus to be on what’s the most important thing.

“That everyone is there together on Sunday and at their maximum.

“The supporters will come with a spring in their step anyway.”

St Andrew’s will be sold out but the threat of a transfer embargo is now looming large over the Second City club.

Birmingham expect to hear they have failed the Financial Fair Play test this week.

That will result in an independent commission being set up.
