I’m kicking off as loud as I can

- Kev

KARMA. To me that always meant if you do something, it will catch up with you in another form in your life. I don’t think I did anything majorly wrong in my pre-cancer life, yet here I am with terminal prostate cancer.

Then I got thinking, maybe I have it wrong, maybe the cancer is for me a good thing, an opportunity to experience and influence things way beyond what I ever imagined. Perhaps, bizarrely, for me it is good (even if sometimes uncomfortable) karma!

So last weekend I found myself as a “top table guest” at the Vanarama National League football finals at Wembley. Not only that but I was given the opportunity to present for a few minutes to 400 guests about prostate cancer, never giving up, and the joy of living in the now.

To cap it all, I was honoured by being allowed to shake the hands of the players on the pitch before the match – not many people get that chance. It was a thrilling game too. Great karma!

My only sadness for the day was a number of men who came up to me after I spoke to say that they had prostate cancer too but considered it a private matter.

These men, some of influence, have the opportunity to potentially save lives but were prepared to let others – their teams, fans – find out all too late for themselves the hard way. That’s a real shame in my humble opinion. I could only but try to influence them but maybe if they read this they might change their minds.

If you could share something to do some good, even if you consider it something embarrassing, I hope you would.

Until next week,

These men of influence could save lives by speaking out to their teams and the fans
