MCGRATH ON CLOUD NINE AS TIPPERARY MARCH ON

- BY JOHN FALLON

LIAM MCGRATH led the way with a 0-9 haul as Tipperary eased their way to a Munster semi-final against Cork next weekend.

He was in superb form as they led from start to finish against a disappointing Waterford side.

It took Tipperary time to break down Waterford’s packed defence but they did enough to get an early lead through Michael Quinlivan and a couple of frees from Liam Mcgrath.

Kevin O’halloran, Jack Kennedy and Jimmy Feehan followed with points before Waterford finally opened their account when Gavin Crotty landed a point.

Mcgrath responded with another free from Mcgrath but Waterford came into it when Tommy Prendergast kicked two good points from play to leave them four behind at the break, 0-7 to 0-3.

Tipp, though, pulled away again after the restart, shooting six points in the opening 11 minutes of the second half.

Waterford rallied in the final quarter, with Jason Curry making an impact after coming on but they never looked like catching Liam Kearns’ men.
