RUBEN SHOULD STAY IN

-

THE team for Colombia seems pretty nailed down to me and the big debate – the only debate – is whether Dele Alli should return.

I’m not so sure Southgate should put him in.

He’s missed two games and, unless you’re an absolute world-beater, you don’t get an automatic route back into the team.

If someone comes in and does as well as Ruben Loftus-cheek (above) has, then I would suggest you deserve to stay there.

I’d like to see stronger midfield support for Jordan Henderson anyway.

From now on, it gets serious. Opponents will have plenty of possession and there needs to be strength and energy in the middle to counter that.

Whether that’s Eric Dier, I don’t know, he looked rusty against Belgium. Loftuscheek has done well, looks pretty strong, mobile and can link forward too.

The rest of the positions look fairly certain.

There has been debate about Raheem Sterling, but he started the first two games and that alone says he’s coming back in.

His movement could be a key weapon against Colombia. Set-pieces could play a big part in that game, with Yerry Mina looking really dangerous for them after his two goals in the last two games. But no one has looked more dangerous than Harry Kane.

So Sterling’s pace and movement will be vital in creating chances, but also winning set-pieces.

It’s about being tough and solid at the back, disciplined and not giving up chances, while using the weapons we have going forward.

And top weapon Kane could be the match-winner.
