Hilda Ogden really started something when she hung pottery ducks on the mural – or Muriel as she called it – in her front room. Beswick’s porcelain versions, made in the UK from 1938 to 1973, are very collectable. There are reproductions also flying around, so spotting originals is harder. Beswick also made sets of swallows, partridges and seagulls. A good set of swallows is worth £400, gulls can make £600 and rare pink-legged partridges top £1,000. Mallards come in different sets – and your foursome will net £300 to 400, in good condition.
