Walls will not bring peace, warns Pope

BUILDING walls and occupying land will not lead to Middle East peace, Pope Francis said yesterday.

Only a “concrete desire” to listen and talk can resolve conflict, the Pontiff said as he led a summit of Christian leaders.

He warned: “Truces maintained by walls and displays of power will not lead to peace.

“Let there be an end to the few profiting from the sufferings of many. No more occupying territories and tearing people apart.”

Speaking in Bari, Italy, he said the “status quo” of the city of Jerusalem should be respected and backed a two-state solution to the Israeli-palestinian dispute.
