Ade’s fears of dementia like his dad

- BY KAREN ROCKETT

TV comic Ade Edmondson says his greatest fear is getting dementia and not being able to kill himself.

The 61-year-old actor lost his dad to the disease in 2009 – the same year his wife Jennifer Saunders was fighting breast cancer.

Speaking in the Guardian Magazine yesterday, he said: “He had dementia for the last two years. That’s particularly gruesome so by the time he went, it was a relief really.

“My greatest fear is getting it and not having the means to top myself.

“I often thought, as he looked at me with startled, fearful eyes, that he was imploring me to do him in.”

He said he “practises stoicism” since losing his dad, a former geography teacher, adding: “Accept what you can’t change.”
