DAVID DUNNE hit the first goal as Wexford thumped Westmeath in their All-ireland SHC preliminar­y round quarter-final at Cusack Park in Mullingar.

Dunne’s first-half goal meant Wexford were 1-12 to 0-8 ahead at half-time but they weren’t comfortabl­e until Conor Mcdonald added a second strike in the second half.

Wexford go on to face beaten Munster finalists Clare next time out, but Westmeath’s year is over.
