We must all shine light on net trolls

-

IT’S ridiculous and sickening to think TV3 star Cassie Stokes is being subjected to homophobic abuse online.

It’s sad to think such bigots still exist. Internet trolls like to sit behind their keyboards and spout vile comments to people they don’t even know.

You could bet these cowardly idiots wouldn’t dare abuse Cassie, or anyone else for that matter, to their face.

The trolls who abused Cassie are bullies. There is no other word for them.

Cassie and her girlfriend Kathleen have the kind of relationship most people would love to have.

Ireland has proved just how forward-thinking and accepting it is by voting in same-sex marriage.

The ones behind these slurs need to realise love will always win over hate.

As much as Cassie says she ignores the abuse and tries to respond positively, she shouldn’t be getting it in the first place.

At the end of the day, she is a great presenter and sexuality shouldn’t come into it – those sending out negative comments should hang their heads in shame.

Cassie is gay and proud and a great role model for others who look up to her.

She is right in being vocal about the horrible comments – the more outspoken we all are the less likely it is to happen.
