Gotta soul with it

Liam pays heartfelt tribute to Aretha Franklin

Some Might Say Liam

Gallagher is an unlikely soul fan – but he thrilled fans with a tribute to Aretha Franklin.

The ex-oasis frontman told fans Aretha had “the best voice in the universe” and sang the aptly-named Soul Queen in her honour.

Behind him at Rize festival in Chelmsford, Essex, was a big picture of the star, who died this week aged 76.

The As You Were singer is known for poking fun at estranged brother Noel, 51, during his gigs – but 45-year-old Liam appeared to be in a more reflective mood as he headlined on Friday.

It came after he tweeted “RIP Aretha Franklin what a voice x” as the news broke of her death on Thursday.

He dedicated his old band’s hit Live Forever to icon Aretha as his son Gene, 17, and rapper Kendrick Lamar looked on.

Rounding it off with classic Wonderwall, he added: “Sorry if I bored you” - but judging by fans’ reactions online, they were anything but.

Liam’s pals Miles Kane and Tom Grennan hit the bar later with some Love Island contestants, Craig David, James Bay and the Manic Street Preachers.

But party stalwart Liam dodged a late night. He headed straight up north for the final gig of his tour at Old Trafford cricket ground in Manchester.

He’s still mad for it, then...
