Fury eases to win and tees up big Wilder bout
TYSON FURY has agreed to a fight against WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder after beating Francesco Pianeta on a points decision in their heavyweight fight in Belfast last night.
In easing past Pianeta on the undercard of Carl Frampton’s bout with Luke Jackson, Fury often slipped shots and showcased his natural skillset in switching from orthodox to southpaw in patches.
His Italian rival never looked in deep trouble but Fury did not seem intent on scoring a knockout.
He constantly flicked the double jab to maintain distance and there were flurries of ferocity, notably a beautiful right hand-left hook combination in the fourth and a right hook from range in the seventh.
His corner warned against complacency before the sixth round, such was his relative comfort, but Pianeta cut a frustrated figure against a mobile target and had little in the tank to trouble Fury.
A few boos rang out from the Windsor Park fight fans, who demanded more fireworks from the ‘Gypsy King’ but Fury later stated he was just pleased to get 10 rounds as he settles back into the sport.
After the fight, Wilder joined Fury in the ring to confirm their clash, with the date and venue to be announced next week
The American also promised to deliver a knock out win.
Wilder said: “You’ve never been knocked out but you’re going to feel the experience, what it feels to get hit by the Bronze Bomber.”
Fury responded by saying: “Listen, you can’t knock out what you can’t hit.
“This man (Pianeta) couldn’t land a blow on me tonight.
“I’m knocking you the f*** out.”
