Running with terminal cancer by Kevin Webber

-

As part of my quest to raise awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer UK I frequently do presentations to all kinds of groups from runners to Rotary Clubs, Scout troops, football teams and businesses all with the fantastic support and blessing of my employer RBS.

When presenting, I am often asked why I do what I do, now that my life will be cut considerably shorter. They think that they may, in my situation, be depressed and hit the bottle.

Yes I love being outdoors running but what really keeps me going is the thought that the running gives me a story that I can use to hopefully save lives and families’ sanity in years to come.

There is no personal gain apart from a feeling of self-worth.

Imagine my surprise and honour then when I heard this week that I am on the short list of three in the Just Giving Awards 2018 for “Endurance fundraiser of the year”.

The nominees are all worthy winners but I hope, not for me, but for Prostate Cancer UK that I can win the award to help raise awareness of a disease that one in eight men in the UK will get – one in four if you are black.

A man dies every 45 minutes from prostate cancer, we must make it stop!

If you want to vote for me, Kevin Webber, please go to this site, it costs nothing and you can help me make a difference to families in the future: www.justgiving.com/forms/awards/2018/vote. For some reason, I am the first person on the site!

Thank you, until next week,

Kev

I do love running but what keeps me going is using my story to hopefully save lives
