Exeter’s Stock on the rise

- By MATT BAMSEY at St James’ Park

EXETER manager Matt Taylor heaped praise on Jayden Stockley after he stretched his lead at the top of English football’s goal charts.

Stockley sealed the win with his 63rd-minute header to move him to 22 goals in 2018.

And that is more than any other player in the top four tiers.

“I have seen the stats,” said Taylor (right). “It’s great to have that and I still think there is room for improvement.

“Jayden is still only 25 and this is his first real run in terms of a long run of fixtures and he is still improving.

“He leads the team in terms of his attitude and he trains so well. We are lucky to have him and there is still more to come.”

Exeter took the lead in the 14th minute thanks to a classic route one goal.

Jonathan Forte latched on to Christy Pym’s clearance before scoring via the inside of a post

Swindon‘s Marc Richards wasted a glorious chance to level in the 24th minute when he escaped down the right but Pym stuck out a leg to deny him.

Stockley wrapped up the win when he broke away from his marker to head home Pierce Sweeney’s stunning cross for his ninth goal of the campaign. Secondplaced Exeter are now seven games unbeaten and have won four homes games on the spin. Taylor added: “I am delighted with a clean sheet after some sloppy defending last week.” Swindon have now gone four games without a win and experienced boss Phil Brown fumed: “It was an unacceptable performance..”
