to snub rivals Manchester City to join the Reds.

He banks a further £75,000 for every appearance. And now those vast sums are being used as players look for better deals.

De Gea, 27, believes that a deal worth £300,000 a week is not unrealistic given he is now widely regarded as the best goalkeeper in the world.

The Spain star is on £175,000 a week and was expected to sign a new contract in the summer.

But an agreement still has not been reached and Jose Mourinho is worried by the stalemate with Juventus lurking.

United have the option of triggering a clause in De Gea’s current contract that would force him to stay until the summer of 2020.

But they would then lose him for nothing if he decided not to sign a new deal. United’s hopes of securing the future of Martial have also reached an impasse, with the Frenchman rejecting the club’s latest offer.

Martial’s contract expires next summer but includes a clause that could see United keep him a further 12 months.

The club are ready to double his current £70,000-a-week wages, but have been unable to broker a deal.
