- BY KAREN ROCKETT

CROONER Engelbert Humperdinck claims he is winning a 10-year battle to cure his wife’s Alzheimer’s disease.

The singer believes to have a rare power to heal his beloved Patricia and employs an army of acupuncturists, holistic healers and doctors to do everything he can for her.

And Release Me star Engelbert, 82, is convinced that, with his help, 79-yearold Patricia is improving.

He said: “She’s doing okay considering she’s had it for the past 10 years.

“She still knows me and knows everybody. Our son Scott came over from Australia a couple of days ago and she called him by his name. That’s unheard of because after 10 years of Alzheimer’s

Patricia & Engel nobody can say people’s names like that. We’re doing everything to help her. It’s important to investigate every avenue.” Engelbert says he misses Patricia in the bedroom but says they have plenty of kisses “to make sure my lips are registered in her mind”. Patricia receives round-the-clock care at the family home in California. And Engelbert adds confidently: “She’ll be back, I know she will.” The couple met in 1956 in Leicester, where the singer grew up having moved to Britain from India aged 11. He admitted in a magazine interview yesterday that he wasn’t always faithful, adding: “You think the grass is going to be greener but you find it’s not. “Yes, I hurt my wife but my true love has always been where it began.”
