Carson looks to return of Golden days

- BY KEITH WEBSTER

CARSON WENTZ returns to action tonight, determined to rescue Philadelphia’s season and push them on to defending their Super Bowl crown.

The Eagles quarterback led Philly to victory in their last game, at Wembley two weeks ago against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

And he has a new weapon in the shape of Golden Tate to use on the Dallas Cowboys in Pennsylvania.

After returning to the US from London, Eagles coach Doug Pederson traded for the Detroit receiver, who played against the Cowboys last month and torched them with eight catches for 134 yards and two touchdowns.

Pederson said: “Tate is a smart guy. One of the things that you see on film with him is his first-step quickness. Then when you see it in person, it shows up.

“We all know about the yards after catch. He’s strong, former running back, things like that.

“Sometimes you don’t know about work ethic with different players, but being a veteran player, coming in here, embracing the offence, embracing his role this week, and what we’re asking him to do.”

Tate had a great understanding in Detroit with quarterback Matthew Stafford, something Pederson wants to see him develop quickly with Wentz.

The coach added: “They’re going to have to spend a little extra time either during or after practice and getting some extra throws just to kind of get a feel.”

Wentz added: “Obviously, the more reps, the better. At the same time, you turn on the film of what he’s done in Detroit and just try to see his body language and what he’s good at.

“It’ll be big to finally start to get used to him and build that chemistry right away.”

The Eagles’ campaign was saved by the win in London, levelling their record at 4-4.

Dallas have had their problems this season and, at 3-5, are unlikely to go far, especially if they don’t win tonight.
