- BY ALAN SELBY

HARRY Potter conjured up an incredible €37million last year in e-sales of the hit books alone.

And the boy wizard continues to work his magic for his creator JK Rowling, whose royalties cut was €5.4million, figures reveal.

Her firm Pottermore Ltd handles income from digital and audio versions of the first seven books, as well as from sales of spin-off stage scripts and screenplays published as e-books.

Latest accounts filed at Companies House celebrated a better than expected year – despite a revenue fall from €45.7million in 2017, which was an exceptional year. The accounts

HOG WADS Rowling got €5.4m in royalties revealed: “Revenue in the year has outperformed expectations thanks to a strong sales performance of the Harry Potter ebooks and digital audiobooks. “Compared to the prior year, revenue has fallen. The exceptional 2017 result was driven by the hugely successful launch of the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play script, the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them screenplay, and the Hogwarts Library Digital Audio Book.” The firm’s pre-tax profit was €3.8million after costs. Cash from hard copies of Rowling’s books is paid into a separate firm Collections Agency Ltd, which in 2017 had €52million in its account. JK Rowling is now worth a staggering €880million. alan.selby@reachplc.com
