‘It’s time for same-sex couples to strut stuff’
DARREN Kennedy says Dancing With The Stars bosses should make TV history by introducing same-sex couples to the popular RTE show.
The stylist would love to see it happen during the Sunday night programme’s “switch-up” week.
The challenge typically sees contestants swap partners one time only – and Kennedy told The Late Late Show that RTE should grasp the opportunity, adding it would “be a bit of craic”.
On Friday night, host Ryan Tubridy asked the 35-year-old Dubliner what he thought about the proposal.
Kennedy, who recently launched a men’s skincare products company, said: “I was chatting to Loraine the judge the other day and she teaches same-sex couples to dance and there’s a lot of it in the competitive world apparently.
“I think, ‘Why not?’ It’s representative of the audience at home.
“I mean, our Taoiseach is a happily, dancing, gay man.
“It’s not a big deal really to see two men dancing.
“It hasn’t been done on Strictly in the UK, I think Italy may have done it or somewhere like that. It’d be a bit of craic.”
On last week’s show Darren gave viewers a taste of the summer with his lively jive.
He and professional partner Karen impressed the audience who gave him a warm round of applause and scored a respectable 14 from the judging panel.
Expert Julian told him: “It was upbeat and it worked very well with the music, you really entertained me tonight.”
