WATTS THE GOSS

Halina Watts down the showbiz rabbit hole

“I will never surrender my pen,” declared Patti

Smith, 72, at London’s Roundhouse on Friday.

Shrieking and spitting through songs, with recitals of Virginia Woolf, Patti is my kind of lady.

Queen of cooking, Bake Off’s Prue Leith says her husband doesn’t mind being her personal “chauffeur”.

Prue, 78, says of retired fashion designer John Playfair, 71: “My husband is such a grown-up, confident fellow. He doesn’t mind carrying my handbag. He doesn’t mind being my chauffeur.

“He is a lovely guy – he is very relaxed. He has been very successful and he is retired now and he doesn’t mind. He thinks it’s quite fun. He is the one who says to me, ‘You can’t wear that, it’s not on-brand’.”

Just the way it should be... Kanye West has been earning his stripes as he attempts to reinvent himself post Trump-gate. The rapper, 41, stepped out in this unusual zig-zag haircut. His last tweet suggested he’d done a U-turn on distancing himself from President Donald Trump, 72, as he wrote: “One of my favorite of many things about what the Trump hat represents to me is that people can’t tell me what to do because I’m black.”

“If I’m walking down the red carpet in black trousers, I will always wear black underpants in case I’ve got a big hole somewhere.” Peter Andre takes extra precautions at the National TV Awards this week.

Brit superstar George Ezra better watch out... for his younger brother Ethan Barnett.

The singer’s sibling is launching himself under the name Ten Tonnes, and says their family Christmases are spent doing karaoke. Ethan, 22, tells me: “I am a massive fan – it’s always nice going home, having a catch-up and doing lots of karaoke.” He has already supported George, 25, on tour, as well as the Stereophonics and Rat Boy, with his debut album by the same moniker coming soon and single, Better Than Me, out now. Being a huge Beatles fan, he is delighted Paul Mccartney has finally gone grey.

Squaring up to a world champion heavyweight boxer is probably not the best idea. But rapper Big Narstie, real name Tyrone Lindo, 33, didn’t seemed fazed by the idea when he met Frank Bruno, 57.

The pair were answering calls on Zopa’s The Feelgood Hotline on Wednesday when Big Narstie challenged Frank to a karate fight.

A source tells me: “They were both getting on really well, and then Big said he wanted to try out his karate skills on Frank.

“In the end they just (awkwardly) laughed it off and moved on.”

Probably for the best...
