FAVOURITES TO WIN THE TITLE ... THAT’S CITY

Alisson puts Pep stars in driving seat

- BY STEVE MILLAR

LIVERPOOL keeper Alisson has told Premier League rivals Manchester City that the title is theirs to lose.

The £67million Brazil international believes Jurgen Klopp’s men are still outsiders in their bid to become champions for the first time in 29 years – despite holding a four-point advantage over Pep Guardiola (below) and his City side.

Liverpool face Leicester at Anfield on Wednesday night, with Klopp hoping his players will reap the benefits of a warm-weather training camp in Dubai.

Alisson said: “Liverpool now have the quality to fight for the biggest trophies, there is no doubt about it.

“But there’s a long way ahead of us and it’s important to be sure where we are going.

“City proved their strength by winning the league comfortably last year. They have also invested for this season, so their team is even better now.

“They are very tough opponents and the big favourites.

“However, we also have our ambition to win the league this season and I believe in our talent to go all the way.

“But we have to think step by step and make sure we keep our feet on the ground.”

Alisson has been sensational since arriving from Roma in the summer.

He has conceded just 13 goals in 23 league games this season as Liverpool have maintained the best defence in the division.

And three of those goals came in the 4-3 home win over Crystal Palace last time out.

But City are the highest scorers in the Premier League, with 62.

And their plus45 goal difference is four superior to the leaders. But City are chasing a Quadruple and face a fixture pile-up at the end of the season. Liverpool’s early exit from both the domestic cups allowed Klopp to take his squad away to the Middle East while Guardiola was preparing his team to face Rotherham, Burton and Burnley. City meet Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley next month, leaving them with a Premier League trip to Everton to rearrange. And a new date may also have to be found for the Manchester derby meeting with United at Old Trafford. With 15 Premier league games remaining, the Blues have drawn mid-table Bundesliga side Schalke in the Champions League, while Liverpool have a tougher last-16 encounter with Bayern Munich.
