TAKING AIM

Where there’s a Will, there’s a way for Shakers

- By EDWARD KINSEY at Gigg Lane

WILL AIMSON’S late header earned Bury a point in a pulsating top-of-the-table clash in League Two.

Danny Cowley’s side led after nine minutes when Danny Rowe pounced on Chris Stokes’ slip to bend his strike past goalkeeper Joe Murphy.

Ryan Lowe’s in-form Shakers then equalised on 15 minutes through midfielder Jay O’shea, who controlled Danny Mayor’s pass and fizzed a low drive which deflected off Jason Shackell and to the left of keeper Grant Smith. Lincoln had their second after Bury failed to clear Harry Toffolo’s free-kick.

As the ball was headed back out to Cian Bolger, he aimed a shot across the face of goal which deflected off Stokes and into the roof of his own net.

Bury levelled for a second time before halftime. Following a good move from Mayor and Dominic Telford, the former’s cross deflected into the path of Nicky Adams at the back post, who guided his volley beyond Smith.

Shortly after the restart, Lincoln aimed for a third and went close after John Akinde’s through ball slipped Rowe in behind Bury’s defence, only for the forward to thrash his strike into the sidenetting.

And the Imps retook the lead from the penalty spot. Harry Anderson was brought down by Callum Mcfadzean, and Akinde (below) stepped up to send Murphy the wrong way. Having gone behind for a third time, Bury looked to respond again, with Mayor and Adams both going close. Aimson could only head straight at Smith and Nicky Maynard skied his shot way over. But Bury’s patience was rewarded when Aimson rose well to power in a header and secure a point.
