Team’s LGBT football kit to fight gay hate
FOOTBALLERS are supporting the fight against homophobia by wearing a new kit based on the LGBT rainbow flag.
Altrincham normally sport red and white stripes in National League North.
They will don kit based on the flag’s colours when they face Bradford (Park Avenue) on February 16.
The club tweeted: “Not all stripes are straight.”
Bill Waterson, director of the Greater Manchester club, said it was the first time a senior football club had worn LGBT colours.
Kirsty Clarke, of LGBT charity Stonewall, said: “It is great to see Altrincham FC will be challenging anti-lgbt abuse in sport.”
