Ex-rebel ends his 23yr exile

AN exiled former Chilean rebel has returned to his country after having led a fight against a former dictator.

Patricio Ortiz Montenegro came back for the first time since 1996 after a warrant for his arrest was annulled late last year.

He was an active member of militant organisation the Manuel Rodriguez Patriotic Front.

He was jailed in 1991 for killing a policeman and later escaped.
