Lee cool on party

- By RICHARD LATHAM at Ashton Gate

LEE JOHNSON refused to get carried away after seeing his rampant Bristol City team surge into the Championship play-off zone.

The head coach could reflect on a seventh successive win in league and FA Cup – plus an unbeaten run of 13 games – after Andreas Weimann had scored one goal and made another.

Johnson (below) said: “It was another strong performance and I honestly believe we are still improving as a team.

“But there is plenty to work on. I don’t mind our fans getting ahead of themselves and partying.

“My job is to keep the players’ feet firmly on the ground.

“We have hit form at a good time and what’s even better is that we have a lot of quality players out of the team, and even the squad, at the moment.

“We are going to need them, with the FA Cup to consider as well. But all credit to the lads for our run in as tough a division as the Championship.” Weimann cracked Swansea with a downward header from Jamie Paterson’s cross seconds after the interval. It was his first goal since one against the Welsh club in August.

And it was a clever through pass from Weimann which put Callum O’dowda in to make the points safe on 74 minutes, the Ireland winger netting with a low finish.

The Swans came closest in the 62nd minute when keeper Frank Fielding tipped a shot from George Byers against a post.

More than 3,000 visiting fans spent much of the game chanting against the owners over a lack of positive activity in the transfer window.

Boss Graham Potter said: “It has been a tough week for us.”

And the Swans were plunged into further disarray last night when chairman Huw Jenkins quit.

His decision to step down comes after heavy criticism from Swansea fans in the wake of last season’s relegation from the Premier League and the sale of the club to American pair Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan.
