Less than half fail to pay fine for dumping

A COUNCIL has been urged to do more about rubbish disposal after only 44% of dumping fines were paid last year.

Fianna Fail’s Daithi de Roiste branded the statistics “crazy”, as only 443 people coughed up the cash for littering despite 991 being issued charges.

The representative said the lack of payments to Dublin City Council was “not good enough”.

He added: “This is something that annoys the hell out of me. When you see bin bags just dumped at the side of the road or in our parks, mattresses and even sofas in some cases.

“It’s crazy, roughly half the people caught doing this over the past five years haven’t even paid their fines.”
