Intel €7bn HQ revamp set to create 3,000 building jobs
Kildare hub MICROCHIP giant Intel wants to pump €7billion into expanding its Irish base in a move that could create 3,000 building jobs.
The firm last week submitted planning applications to construct a new 110,000 sqm manufacturing facility at its Leixlip base in Co Kildare.
If approved, the new development will see the creation of up to 1,600 extra staff and 800 full-time positions at the sprawling campus.
And construction of the new plant, which will take around four years, will create around 3,000 building jobs.
As well as the huge new factory, the plans include support buildings, water treatment plants and an “air separation unit” that would have towers up to 63m high.
The company also plans to make changes to the main entrance to the plant and the internal roads, as well as creating an additional 4,000 bicycle parking spaces and a car park.
When built, the two new facilities will almost be twice the size of the Dundrum town centre.
The US firm has also proposed widening the nearby R148 which will be necessary to accommodate the extra traffic coming to the expanded site.
