Allies launch ‘last battle’ against ISIS
A BLITZ on Islamic State that has been billed as “the last battle” was launched in Syria yesterday.
Us-backed Syrian Democratic Forces are assaulting the terror group’s last enclave in the country, in the eastern province of Deir el-zour.
Mustafa Bali, head of the SDF’S media, said: “The battle will be launched and its mission will be to eliminate the last remnants of the terrorist organisation.”
He said over the past 10 days more than 20,000 civilians have been evacuated from the besieged enclave – a sliver of land taking in two villages near the Iraqi border.
It makes up less than one per cent of the selfstyled caliphate that once sprawled across swathes of war-torn Syria and Iraq.
