One email gave me go-go after I’d lost my mojo

-

Unusual, perhaps, but I find my release from the dark bits of my reality by ultra running.

I have run all over the world and am, fortunately, still able to shuffle along to blow away my fears. But there are days when I lose my mojo.

Sometimes that’s brought on by the “what’s the point” side of life. Other times it is a physical thing which is the “pin” that can deflate the most buoyant of days.

Last week was one of those mojo-losing occasions when I was ill and stuck in bed for two days with no food.

And what little I had in me soon exited my body. It was pretty rough but I realised that at least it wasn’t as bad as having chemotherapy... which then brought back its own bleak memories.

By the end of the week I was on the mend but had lost the will to compete in a 66-mile race over the weekend.

I was ready to throw in the towel when I received an email from Justgiving” to say that “Gary” had sponsored my many running challenges this year.

That was all it took to remind me that the ultra races are not just for me, they are about proving that cancer does not have to be the immediate end and raising funds for others is something that I must carry on doing.

So I set off on the XNRG Pilgrim Challenge, in Kent. It’s a fantastic race in its 10th year. However, I didn’t really do it justice by being very slow. But I finished, chatted to many old friends, made some new ones and definitely never gave up! Radio Surrey cricket commentator Mark Church ran with me for the first 33 miles... quite an innings!

When you notice someone you know losing their mojo I hope that you give them a reason to get up and go again, just like Gary did to me.

Until next week Kev

I had tough week but sponsor provided the perfect reason to get up and go again
