DANCING With The Stars finalist Cliona Hagan would like to follow in the footsteps of some of her co-stars and land a role on Fair City.

The country singer from Co Tyrone said she has found a new love for acting while getting into character for her routines each week.

She told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “I am not going to be afraid to challenge myself this year.

“You know what I’ve really loved, getting into character for all the dancers. I would love to try acting or try and push myself.”

And when asked if she would give Fair City a go, she said: “I would, of course, any acting role, I think it would be so much fun.

“You don’t just have to have one big love, I love dancing now too, so I’d love to try different things.”

The singer, who is up against Mairead Ronan and Johnny Ward in tonight’s final said she’s looking forward to some sleep before she heads back on the road after her stint on the hit RTE show.

She added: “It’s been an emotional rollercoaster this week.

“But you know what, I am enjoying it all, it’s the last day at the dance studio and we are all having the craic and you know what getting to the final is an achievement in itself.

“I’m going to be devastated when it is over. It has been the best experience of my life.

“But I will probably be glad to get some more sleep.”

And crushing any rumours of romance off the dance floor when the show ends, Cliona added: “My dance partner Robert Rowinski has become a great friend of mine.

“Obviously we have spent months together everyday and I am really going to miss him so much.

“But there’s no romance. Robert and I are just very good friends. There is no romance.” Fellow finalist Mairead is hopeful she can win the contest with the help of mammies nationwide. She said: “I’ve been getting loads of messages from mothers on Instagram, Twitter and even by email wishing me luck, it’s been brilliant loads of support from mums. “If I got the lovely Instagram messages turned into votes I’d probably win but you never know.” The mother of three, who opened up about her “mummy tummy” admitted that while she has shed weight, she is proud of her baby pouch. She said: “I’ve lost a lot compared to where I started off but the ‘mummy tummy’ is definitely there forever, it still and always will wobble but I love it. “My fitness level was zero when I started but it’s gone right up, other people are fitter, I was never going to be Peter Stringer at the end of it all but I’ve toned up everywhere.” Meanwhile, Johnny, who faced criticism from the outset about his dance ability, as well with dealing with his father’s death during the competition said the show gave him something to put his grief and energy into. He added: “It’s a horrible gruelling schedule and it’s not fun, it’s very very tough but it is all worthwhile when you finish and you see people standing up for your performance. Judges standing.” However, he revealed: “That ‘cha cha’ thing, I don’t know, that is probably the hardest I’ve ever worked and to get two sixes and a seven and then you see some of the other dancers getting eight and nines, it’s really annoying but it is part of the show.” news@irishmirror.ie
