Saturdays star Una opens up on her marriage split from rugby ace Foden
THE Saturdays singer Una Healy described her marriage to Ben Foden as “going through hell”.
She revealed the pair were “strangers” by the end of their time together and the rugby star cheating on her just “sped up the process” of their split.
Una, 37, told Ryan Tubridy on The Late Late Show on Friday night while she didn’t want to “dish the dirt” on Foden, she wanted to reveal what it was like inside their six-year marriage.
Having written a song about the break-up, the Tipperary singer added: “You meet someone, they’re a stranger, you spend a lot of time with them, they weren’t your forever person, they become a stranger again.
“I suppose the story is there. I’m not here to dish the dirt and start saying anything bad about my ex-husband Ben, but the song is clearly about him and how he’s like a stranger now. It’s sad but it’s kind of beautifully sad.”
The pair have daughter Aoife Belle, seven, and four-year-old son Tadhg together and despite it being a tough time in her life, Una said she had “no regrets” about her marriage.
She added: “I’ve just been rebuilding my life as a single mum to my two little kids.
“I don’t regret ever meeting him as I never would have made those beautiful children if it wasn’t for him.
“I can never look back on it and say it was a mistake. It’s just that part of the relationship is over.”
After the break-up Una decided to spend time with her mother in Thurles, so she could process what had happened to her marriage. And she said she has entered a “new phase” in her life after meeting former Limerick hurler David Breen. And in one last damning indictment of her time with Foden, Una said: “If you’re going through hell, keep going. “You feel like you’re burning alive a bit but you’re on the right road.” news@irishmirror.ie
