Best Served Scandinavia offers a four-day tailor-made break to Bergen and the fjords from €620pp, with flights from the UK to Bergen, three nights at Thon Hotel Orion with

passageways, and Bryggen wharf – where colourful wooden houses date back to the 12th century – is even a Unesco World Heritage Site.

The city is known as the rainiest in Europe and at one point we had to take shelter in art venue KODE.

Here, we enjoyed a collection of paintings and sketches by Edvard Munch – not least because I studied his work for my art A-level, many moons ago.

We stayed at the five-star Opus XVI, a hotel owned by relatives of the classical composer Edvard Grieg, who was born in Bergen. Guests can get a taste of his life by visiting a small museum in the

contemporary and luxurious setting. With a wonderful selection of treatments and packages, including wraps, scrubs and rituals, signature treatments and holistic treatments, there is something to suit all needs in a setting of oasis and calm.

The

Heritage offers guests luxury accommodation with a variety of options to choose from, including: standard, superior, executive, deluxe, family guestrooms, junior suites and suites.

Rooms in the hotel have created an environment of absolute comfort, using breakfast and dinner, or three nights’ B&B at Opus XVI hotel. Includes Norway in a Nutshell tour, tickets for the Bergen and Flam railway and bus & cruise tickets. best-served.co.uk

basement. For a unique dining experience, try Restaurant 1887, where each dish comes with a story told by the waiters. Three courses from €68.

We managed to fit in one last train journey before we left – a trip on the funicular to the top of Mount Fløyen.

It offers fantastic views of Bergen and the 30-minute stroll back to the city winds through the forest and streets lined with charming wooden houses.

Most people who visit Norway want to see a bit of everything – city life, the beautiful fjords and mountain villages.

We packed in all that and more... in a Nutshell, that is.
