Lamps sees ‘the real Callum’ halt Blues jinx

- By NEIL MCLEMAN at Stamford Bridge

FRANK LAMPARD declared his Chelsea were back up to speed after his young Three Lions stars put the pride back into Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea started the day in danger of losing three consecutive home league games for the first time since 1993.

But after Jorginho broke the deadlock from the spot, Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-odoi netted, while Reece James was outstanding as an attacking right-back.

Ross Barkley ran midfield in his first Premier League appearance since October and Mason Mount also played his part, with the team’s display easing any pressure to panicbuy this month.

Lampard said: “It feels nice to smile in a game and enjoy what you’re watching.

“I’ve felt for the fans in some of the recent home games because I understand that it is not that exciting when the speed of the game comes down. Today we changed all that.”

Chelsea, who were without the injured N’golo Kante, started on the front foot with early shots from Willian and James flying wide.

The Clarets looked to have weathered the early Chelsea storm – and had a Jeff Hendrick goal disallowed for offside – when the home side took the lead when Matt Lowton fouled Willian.

Jorginho sent Nick Pope the wrong way from the spot to give Chelsea the lead after 27 minutes. After 38 minutes it was 2-0, after

James sent in another superb cross and Abraham’s header wrong-footed the static Pope and Ben Mee on the line. The England striker did appear to get away with an earlier push on James Tarkowski . “Tarkie gets pushed with two hands in the build-up to the second goal and he can’t get back,” Burnley boss Sean Dyche complained. Hudson-odoi’s first Premier League goal of the season sealed the three points just after half-time. The England winger stole in at the far post to convert a cross from Cesar Azpilicueta with VAR ruling he was onside. Lampard claimed: “For Callum to score in the six-yard box is more exciting for me than him scoring from 35 yards. That is the real Callum Hudson-odoi.”

Abraham missed late chances as he looks to stake a claim to fill injured Harry Kane’s boots for England.

Pope made a near-post save before Abraham nodded wide from six yards from a Mount cross.

“I hope he is upset tonight because he should have had two or three,” Lampard said.
