Detectives hope to find butchers’ DNA in ‘murder house’
GARDAI probing the brutal murder of Keane Mulready-woods have vowed to lock up his evil killers.
Detectives are close to lifting two psychos suspected of abducting, torturing and dismembering the 17-year-old in Drogheda. His limbs were dumped in a holdall and his head was discovered in a burning car in a depraved Narcos-style warning. A source said: “We’re taking apart the house where we suspect he was butchered. DNA will nail his killers.”
GARDAI expect to arrest the barbaric killers of tragic teenager Keane Mulready-woods in a matter of days.
Detectives awaiting the results of forensic tests on weapons they believe were used to stab and decapitate the 17-year-old are poised to lift the psychos who carried out the brutal slaying.
It is understood Keane was abducted in the Ballsgrove area of Drogheda, Co Louth, and taken to a house in Rathmullen Park where he was tortured, killed and dismembered.
The Narcos-style killers dumped his arms and legs in a holdall near a rival gangster’s home in Coolock, North Dublin, on Monday night.
His head and hands were discovered in a burning car two days later.
Detectives expect to swoop on the two thugs suspected of the gangland bloodbath once DNA from knives and machetes thought to have been used in the savage attack is analysed.
Officers searching the house seized several large, blood-stained blades which are now being forensically examined.
A source told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “Special search teams are taking apart the house as well as a shed outside.
“Every floorboard has been pulled up and every inch of the property has been forensically searched.
“The expectation is that we will find not just the DNA of the young victim but also of the killers.
“That is what is going to nail them. The house in Rathmullen holds the key to the investigation.
“We are determined to get them. We want these thugs behind bars.”
The Drogheda drugs feud took a sinister and sickening turn on Wednesday when the teen’s head was found in a burning car. Other dismembered remains had been found in a sports bag on a Dublin housing estate on Monday, marking a new low in an escalating gangland war.
Gardai believe the limbs were to be delivered to a rival gang boss as a warning, but they were dumped on the roadside in a panic after officers were spotted patrolling the area.
Speculation is also rife the child’s head was due to be delivered to a crime lord as a chilling message.
Detectives yesterday continued their search for the torso as they combed an area on the Louth/ Meath border where a gang rival lives.
Gardai poised for reprisals in the bitter gang turf war fear a bloodbath in Drogheda and on the streets of the capital as Dublin drugs mobs wade in.
They mounted extra patrols in the Co Louth town and the Armed Response Units remain on high alert as tensions simmer in the wake of the horrific murder.
Locals have been left reeling at the level of barbarity used in the attack –
which has left even seasoned detectives sickened to the core.
Meanwhile, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has insisted Ireland is a “safe” country despite the spate of violence in recent days which includes three shooting incidents and a fatal stabbing.
The bloodshed prompted Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin to claim the Government is “losing control”. But on the election trail yesterday Mr Varadkar, who visited Drogheda on Friday, defended his Government’s record on law and order and countered: “Ireland is a country that is safe. “Ireland is a country that thankfully relative to other countries has a relatively low crime rate and a relatively low murder rate. That doesn’t detract in any way from the seriousness of the crimes that we have witnessed in the last number of days which are unspeakable and are appalling.
“Our responsibility as a Government is working with the Garda and others to bring those who have committed these crimes to justice.”
The teenager’s fate was sealed when he was groomed by a crime mob and recruited into a life of violence at the age of 14.
Gardai believe Keane was hired as a drugs runner and rose through the ranks to the role of enforcer chasing drug debts for those higher up the chain.
He first came to Garda attention at the age of 13 for public order offences and started working as a “spotter” for a gang while he was taking part in Youth Diversion projects.
The 17-year-old was given a suspended sentence last month after he was convicted for threatening to burn down the house of a teenager who owed the gang money. Keane was aligned to one mob when the feud erupted in July 2018 but was recently suspected of shifting loyalties with links to both sides of the feud.
Gardai warned him on January 5 that his life was in danger. It is believed he was lured to his torture and grisly death just five days later.
A Garda representative body has called for extra resources after what it describes as “shocking levels of violence”.
The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors, which represents 2,300 officers, said they need more boots on the ground urgently.
ASTI deputy general secretary Antoinette Cunningham said: “We believe we must keep justice and Garda matters to the fore during this election campaign.
“Taking into consideration the shocking levels of violence that have emerged in Irish society, our advocacy will focus on key areas.”
