Leo’s bride at climate change action policies
LEO Varadkar took bride of place on the campaign trail in Co Offaly yesterday.
In Birr, he posed for photos with a butcher, babies and newlywed Niamh Pardy, who took a moment out of her special day to show her support.
Meanwhile, the Taoiseach’s party has promised to deliver 70% renewable electricity, as he and his Environment Minister yesterday launched Fine Gael’s Climate Action plan.
Mr Varadkar and Richard Bruton were at the Rediscovery Centre in Ballymun, North
Dublin, to launch the plan as they continued on the election trail.
The Taoiseach – who was also celebrating his 41st birthday yesterday – pledged a Fine Gael Government would “deliver real climate action”, with plans including a major new offshore wind project.
Meanwhile, at the husting, in Ballymun, the Taoiseach defended a video put out by the Fine Gael social media team that was subsequently deleted after a backlash online. It depicted Fianna Fail TDS running around Dublin city looking for policies, set to Benny Hill music.
Mr Varadkar said the video had set out to portray serious issues in a light-hearted way. He added: “You will get negative commentary no matter what you put up, that is just the nature of social media.
“The video was making a serious point that Fianna Fail has no serious policies and the party that purports to wish to lead the next Government is not offering anything serious in terms of the economy, Brexit, health or housing.”
