COWLEY ON EDGE
DANNY COWLEY believes his wounded Terriers’ dogfight to stay in the Championship will go down to the wire.
Struggling Huddersfield hauled themselves back into the game thanks to Steve Mounie’s soft touch after Andre Ayew’s first-half strike put Swansea ahead.
But the visitors rolled over and allowed their hosts to score a quick-fire double through Jay Fulton (celebrating above) and Jordon Garrick to surrender all three points.
“Conceding a goal like that stinks of a team in a relegation battle,” said Cowley. “When you come on with one point from eight games you know what you’re in for. You know it’s going to be a long hard season that will go down to the wire.”
The hosts found the net when Jonas Lossl palmed Aldo Kalulu’s cross into the path of Ayew, who diverted into the bottom corner to put Swansea 1-0 up.
Emile Smith Rowe came on and turned the tide for Huddersfield in the second half. The Arsenal loanee got the Terriers back on the front foot, and they hauled themselves level when Chris Willock’s shot was steered home by Mounie. But Fulton rose high to head Swansea back ahead from Matt Grimes’ corner two minutes later. Then Conor Gallagher slipped in substitute Garrick, who rounded Lossl and slotted home.
Swans boss Steve Cooper said: “We just wanted to win today. Our idea of how we want to play the game never changes.
