NO SIGN OF PEP FLAGGIN’

-

I SAID in this column recently that Pep Guardiola won’t be giving the Premier League title a second thought now – his focus will be on winning the Champions League.

But that doesn’t mean he’ll wave the white flag in the domestic competition and pick youth teams to save his best players for the cups. Far from it. I will be shocked if they lose to Manchester United today, even if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown some real signs now of turning things around at Old Trafford.

Having said that, the last couple of years, no matter how good or bad United have been, they have given City a game.

But City are still a class team, even if Liverpool have burnt them in the Premier League this season.

And one thing you know about Guardiola (above), he has always gone with big teams in all his games.

Of course, it’s easier to do that when you have a squad like his – even some of the second string are absolute class – and sometimes you don’t even know which is his recognised first team! I like that about him. I love managers who want to go out and win games – all games – who respect the competitions and want to win the lot.

You look at the team he picked at Sheffield Wednesday and they were incredibly strong. They wanted to win it.

They will be the same at United today.

No way will he rest players to keep them for the European games coming up.

I always bang on about momentum here in this column, but I’m a great believer that when your team is on a roll, you feed it – you keep them going.
