Madigan’s excited to join Ulster

IRELAND fly-half Ian Madigan says he is very excited to be joining a great club in Ulster.

It was revealed yesterday that Madigan will join the province in the summer after agreeing terms last month.

The 30-year old, who joins on a one-year-deal, was previously with Leinster and Bordeaux and most recently a three-year stint with Bristol Bears.

“I’m very excited to be joining such a great club and I look forward to fitting in and running out in Ravenhill,” he said.

“I’d like to thank Bristol Bears for the last three years. I’ve loved my time at the club, winning the Championship and maintaining our Premiership status. I’ve learned a huge amount in my time at Bristol.”

Madigan, who has represented his country on 30 occasions, helped Ireland secure the Six Nations title in 2014, and retaining it the next year.

He featured in all of Ireland’s Rugby World Cup games in 2015, including a standout performance in the match which saw Ireland defeat France.

Madigan moved to French side Bordeaux in 2016 which stalled his international prospects.

He then moved to Bristol Bears in 2017 but is now returning to Irish rugby.

Ulster Head Coach, Dan Mcfarland, said: “It’s great news. Given Ian’s skillset, and the fit it can have with our style of play, I’m confident he will be a valuable addition to our squad both on and off the pitch, where he will bring a bank of experience to a group of talented young out-halves.”
