Tipp panel restricted on return

THE Tipperary senior hurling panel will restrict their movements for two weeks after returning from Spain.

The All-ireland champions departed for a five-day training camp to Costa Blanca on Monday though with the COVID-19 crisis having escalated rapidly in the interim and Spain one of the worst hit countries in Europe, the travelling party was briefed by HSE representatives on their return on Friday.

The Tipperary squad and management will follow guidelines for all of those returning from Italy and Spain to curb their movements, a county board statement explained.

“The Tipperary senior hurling team were on a warm weather training camp in south-eastern Spain from Monday 9th March to Friday 13th March,” read the statement.

“The travelling party stayed in private accommodation where there were no other residents and remained in this private location for the duration of their stay.

“They followed HSE and WHO advice in relation to protection against COVID-19 at all times while travelling and while on the training camp.

“On their return on Friday night, they were advised by representatives of the HSE at Shannon Airport that they should restrict their movements for the next two weeks which includes not going to work and reducing social interactions.

“All members of the travelling party are complying fully.”

In line with Government measures to restrict the spread of coronavirus, the GAA announced a shutdown of all activity on Thursday until March 29 meaning that, at the very least, the Allianz Leagues won’t be completed on schedule.

Tipperary were already out after last Sunday’s defeat to Galway and are not due to play again until the Munster SHC against Waterford on May 10.
