Jose’s gloom could cast a big shadow over Kane’s future at Spurs

-

HANS-JOACHIM WATZKE, the chief executive of Borussia Dortmund, has been talking about Jadon Sancho.

“Jadon (right) is maybe the greatest talent in Europe currently of players under the age of 21,” said Watzke. “He has the potential to become one of the two or three best players in the world.”

Roughly translated – rich clubs, please form an orderly queue this summer and don’t start at less than £100million. criticism. If Tanguy Ndombele is upset at a couple of harmless home truths being told in public, then he is most definitely not for Spurs.

But what must Kane think when Mourinho utterly demeans the depth of quality in this Tottenham squad?

After the defeat in Germany, Mourinho claimed every player on the Leipzig bench would get into his team. If that is really the case, then why would Kane not want to move away?

Because, if that really is the case, the chances of Kane winning anything any time soon with Spurs are zero.

Ahead of that Leipzig game, Mourinho was up to his old bragging tricks.

You know the type. It is where he tells you he does not want to talk about the trophies he has won – by listing the trophies he has won.

Every single one of them – down to his two Community Shields.

“It’s not me winning, it’s me helping

AS it happens, I also believe “the only fair thing and reasonable thing to do is declare the whole season null and the club,” Mourinho said last week. “I believe Tottenham is not going to be my only club without silverware.” Ah, so it IS about you winning. That is absolutely fine, of course - Jose wins, Spurs win. Everyone is a winner. But, if Mourinho has such a downer about the strength in depth of his squad, then the chances of Spurs indeed becoming the first club at which he does not win a trophy must be considerable. It is not as though Mourinho will be able to rely on Daniel Levy (left) to give him the green light to spend his way out of the mediocrity that has marked the recent weeks of his Tottenham tenure. Mourinho’s overall record since taking the job in late November is unremarkable. He has lost six of 17 Premier League matches, with eight wins and three draws giving him a points average of 1.59 per match. Apply that to a 38-game season and void”. But when these words are uttered by West Ham’s Karren Brady, it is hard not to think about turkeys calling for Christmas to be canned. he would amass just over 60 points. In his 12 Premier League games at the start of the season before he was sacked, Mauricio Pochettino collected 14 points from 12 games - that is an average of 1.17 points per game.

So Mourinho might have improved on that, but not by that much and his side have now won just three of their last 10 games.

Of course, the injuries to Kane, Heung-min Son and Moussa Sissoko, among others, have had a brutally negative effect on Tottenham’s form.

But the pessimism that has permeated the Tottenham ranks emanates from the manager, despite his insistence he will win silverware.

Even allowing for the return of injured players, there is not a great deal of evidence to back up his claim.

Watching from the solitariness of his rehabilitation, it is hard to imagine Kane does not think the same.

Which is why, approaching 27 years of age and without a trophy in his career, few would blame Kane if he sought a new challenge.
