Jodie: Sandra and I hit it off

Stars’ chemistry core to Killing Eve’s success

- BY KELLY JENKINS scoops@sundaymirror.co.uk

DEADLY assassin Villanelle dressed as a clown is no laughing matter.

The new series of Killing Eve kicks off tomorrow and the darkly comic cat-and-mouse game between the killer and MI6 spook Eve starts all over again.

Their compelling relationship is at the core of the hit series’ success and is partly due to the natural chemistry between the stars.

Jodie Comer, who plays psychopath Villanelle, said from day one there was a spark with Sandra Oh, who is the killer’s nemesis Eve Polastri.

Jodie, 27, said: “Sandra always says that doing a scene together is like having a dance partner, and I think she’s right… you need mutual trust.”

Although the characters’ relationship hit a new low at the end of season two as Villanelle shot Eve in a Roman ruin and left her for dead.

In series three, which starts on the BBC iplayer and sees the introduction of Dame Harriet Walter as Dasha, a shocking death sets the two women on a collision course.

Jodie admitted she and Sandra, 48, get nervous at the start of a new season.

She said: “We feel the pressure and expectations and Sandra and I both want to keep going deeper and pushing things as far as we can.”

Jodie, who won a BAFTA and Emmy for Villanelle, grew up in Liverpool and lived at home until recently.

She would tell her family lies to practise for

her role. She said: “I tested it out on my family to see how credible I was as a liar. I’d invent these absurd stories and tell them about strange incidents and they all fell for it – at least almost always.” As long as Jodie did not try out Villanelle’s more deadly moves.
