My mate Tony is a real inspiration

-

Prostate cancer – or more my reaction to being diagnosed – gave me the kick-start I needed to change my life for the better through running.

In the past five years, I have met a few other people who have followed a path similar to mine and too many others who have gone the other way, letting sadness and regret take over their shortened lives.

A shining example of what can be achieved is my friend Tony Collier, who was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer three years ago.

He was already a good guy, but his cancer has spurred him on to do even greater things for the wider community.

Like me, Tony also wears his heart on his sleeve and wanted to share his bone scan with you all to show how prostate cancer can spread to other parts of your body.

You can see the dark bits all over his body in the scan image above. But despite his cancer, Tony – the current provost of Altrincham and a local business leader – runs hundreds of miles a year, has trained to be a running coach and raised thousands of pounds for charity.

He was quite rightly recognised with the British Empire Medal not so long ago and epitomises what that honour is all about.

Tony regularly inspires me to challenge myself – like right now, with Covid-19, where I have kept on running every day.

I hope that by reading this today, you will be like Tony and I, and choose the better path because you can be a force for good to yourself and others, even in these difficult times. Until next week, Kev

You can always choose to be a force for good, even in difficult times
