DENIS’S CHARGE RISES TO THE CHALLENGE

-

This once raced filly created an excellent impression at Cork last autumn when she made a winning debut in a useful mile maiden.

Her effort that day suggested that she would be quite at home over ten furlongs as a three-year-old while it also marked her out as a likely future stakes winner for Lyons (inset).

AFTER seeing his Sceptical run so well in defeat at Royal Ascot, Denis Hogan ended the day on a high as Make A Challenge landed the Listed Sole Power Sprint.

One of the highest rated sprinters in Ireland took advantage of a good opportunity under Joe Doyle to win well.

He surged into the lead with a furlong to run and comfortably defeated Flash Gordon by two and a half lengths.

He could now tackle next weekend’s

Greenlands Stakes at the Curragh. Earlier the Listed Plusvital Irish EBF Polonia Stakes went to Joseph O’brien’s Lady Penelope, ridden by Declan Mcdonogh.

On her first start since November the 11/1 chance was showing in front from around halfway and she answered Declan Mcdonogh’s urgings in fine style.

You’resobeautiful came with a strong charge late on but Lady Penelope would not be denied and finished well to score by a length and a quarter. “She has given trouble at the stalls before but she was good today and hopefully she has a good season to look forward to,” stated O’brien’s representative Brendan Powell.

“She’ll improve from this and I would imagine that she will get further too,” added Powell.

The day also featured a couple of nice two-year-old performances with Sussex Garden pouncing late for Shane Foley and Jessica Harrington in the fillies maiden.

In the colts maiden, Military Style got up late on under Seamie Heffernan.
