RTE’S SINEAD

- BY SIOBHAN O’CONNOR

The RTE star, who shot to fame on Satitude in Montrose’s kids department, has been married to her hubby Conor for five years and still thinks he’s “hot”.

The 36-year old landed the prime time show Summer At Seven and works alongside funnyman Kevin Mcgahern. The show is on Thursday on RTE One.

Sinead, who has almost two decades of TV presenting under her belt, not to mention a degree in Psychology and a Masters in Mental Health, said it baffles her how all people want to know about is whether she plans on becoming a mother.

The Cork woman told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “I would never ask anybody that question. You never know what you’re walking into, there’s so much more to people than, ‘When are you having kids?’

“Some people don’t want them, some do. Some people are trying, some are having a tough time and some people aren’t there mentally.

PRIVILEGE

“I only started getting asked five years ago when I got married.

“I’ve given interviews in the past where I’ve given out stink about it and I probably came across as being a bit crazy.

“It does drive me a little bit cracked. There’s so much more to women than that.

“It’s a frustrating thing to be asked all the time because it’s not the thing that defines a woman.

“Being a mother is probably the toughest job in the world, it’s a privilege I’ve no doubt but it’s funny there are other things.”

Sinead affectionately refers to her Winning Streak co-presenter Marty Whelan as her TV dad.

She said: “At the relaunch every year he’ll get asked a lot of questions about his career and what’s next and I will undoubtedly get asked very little about my job and a lot about my personal life.

“It drives me insane because I’m like, ‘We do the exact same job’.

“At one point Marty, God bless him, turned around to one of the journalists and said, ‘You know she’s just won a big award for a documentary she just made’.

“Marty is like my other dad, my dad is great craic too, the life and soul of the party, he’s great company.

“I was calling him my TV husband but then I said I better call him my TV dad as he’s the same age as my dad, he’s 62.”

On location in Bulgaria and she’s grateful for the time they’ve been spending together at their home in Kinsale, Co Cork.

She added: “At the very start of our relationship Conor was away at sea a lot, anyone married to a navy man can attest to that.

“He was in charge of the diving unit, for a time so he could be anywhere in the country for weeks on end, but thankfully we’ve had more stability over the last few years. He’s been based in defence headquarters for the past few years. I think
