Louise takes in views from Ballyhoura Mountains

We are now in the swing of summer and with the advice being against non-essential foreign travel it looks like a staycation is on the cards.

Luckily, we live in a gorgeous country that has so much to offer. This week, we’re turning our attention to Limerick, a county with a buzzing city and beautiful countryside with picturesque views.

Influencer Louise Cooney is native to Limerick and she tells us why it is the perfect place to book a staycation in this summer.

Having temporarily moved home from New York because of the pandemic, the lifestyle blogger has been spending more quality time in her home county and has some amazing recommendations...

It’s a stylish city I think Limerick is the fashion hub of Ireland. Maybe I’m biased, but I do think people here are so stylish. The shopping is excellent in the city – we have some really good boutiques there and in Adare. We have the Crescent Shopping Centre as well, so it’s a great city to hit the shops in. Explore undiscovered countryside The countryside of Limerick is really nice, and that’s kind of something I’ve been really discovering since I came home from New York. I recently went to the Ballyhoura Mountains, and there are so many different trails and walks you can take there – plus, it’s where Kim Kardashian and Kanye West honeymooned.

Taylor Swift spent Christmas in Glin last year, so the countryside is a cool place.

Louise’s favourite bar

I think it’s so undiscovered and such a gem if you actually take time out to go there, especially during summer because all of the wild flowers are in full bloom. It’s just gorgeous. Amazing places to eat I love Locke Burger, it’s literally the best burger in Limerick! The Buttery is really nice for brunch. Cornstore on Thomas Street or Curragower on Clancy’s Stand are perfect for dinner and drinks. Growing up, I thought the food in America was the best thing in the world. But now, being an adult and living there and seeing the effect the food and all of the preservatives have on you makes you realise that everything in Limerick, and Ireland, is organic and fresh. It’s just such good quality food and we take it for granted because we’ve

never really known anything else. Top for a tipple I feel the city has got a new lease of life in the last few years, a good few new places for drinks have opened. I love popping into House for a nice drink – like the atmosphere there it’s nice and chilled. And 101 on O’connell Street is new. Best hotels The Strand is lovely, it’s situated right beside the river. Obviously, the Adare Manor Hotel should be the top of everyone’s list – it’s just gorgeous. The luxury hotel was voted No1 resort in Europe in the prestegious Conde Nast Readers Choice Awards. Activities There are some fabulous places to hike, bike and walk such as the Great Southern Greenway, a 39km walking and cycling offroad route on an old railway line and takes in lovely towns along the way. Shannon Fields to Guinness Bridge is a 1.6km path running parallel to the River Shannon with seating and exercise equipment. There are boat tours and watersports as well including kayaking and canoeing.
