Congress prepares ‘inciting insurrection’ charge
DONALD Trump will be set on a fast-track to impeachment tomorrow.
The formal move is an attempt to ensure he is banned from ever running for the presidency again.
It comes amid swelling anger over the US Capitol riot, fomented by the outgoing President, which left five people dead, including a police officer.
House of Congress lawmakers will seek to charge the Republican with “incitement of insurrection”.
The Democrats said they would only halt their bid if he resigns or is removed under the 25th Amendment.
Even after the Washington violence on Wednesday, Mr Trump – who has fought to have his election trouncing by Democrat Joe Biden overturned – vowed he will return to power.
But a Washington insider told the Sunday Mirror: “This is catastrophic for him. He feels he did nothing wrong and was not responsible for the riot.

“But people are hell-bent on ensuring he can never again be President.” Individuals are allowed two terms in the White House so Mr Trump would be permitted to run again in 2024 unless he receives a life ban. A two-thirds Senate majority is needed to convict him of the proposed charge but a vote on disqualifying him for ever could pass by simple majority. Each party has 50 Senate seats – but incoming Democrat Vice-president Kamala Harris holds the casting vote. And Republican senator Lisa Murkowski, representing Alaska, said she is thinking of quitting because of her leader’s conduct. Mr Trump is vowing to set up a rival to Twitter after it banned him for “violating our policy not to glorify violence”. He is also refusing to attend President-elect Biden’s inauguration on January 20. Yesterday, claims emerged that Trump supporters in the mob spoke of hunting down Vice-president Mike Pence and hanging him for being a “traitor”. Riot “shaman” Jake Angeli, of right-wing conspiracy theory movement Qanon was a l so charged w i th violent trespass. The 32- year- old wore a horn headdress at the protest.
