Lampard: Punish the Covidiots

-

moment we’re asking every person in the UK to follow rules.

“Players have to follow similar rules – and in the workplace – to align themselves to the Premier League and the FA regulations.”

Whether it should be a points deduction for the club, or a ban and fine for the guilty individual is up for debate, according to Lampard.

Ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup clash with Morecambe, Lampard added: “I’m not sure about who the responsibility goes to – to the clubs or the FA.

“My feeling would be it’s something the clubs should have, an in-house policy to deal with it – guided by the Premier League and the FA.”

But West Ham boss David Moyes isn’t so sure footballers should be treated any differently to other high-profile figures.

He said: “If you’re going to take tough measures on players, then you might as well take them on the Government people who broke the rules as well, because it’s certainly not just football players who have done it. “You have to be careful. “A lot of people are throwing stones in glass houses at the minute and, from that point of view, we all know what the protocols are, we all know we have to be ever-vigilant and doing the right things, but we can all make mistakes as well.”

West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini was pictured with Tottenham players Erik Lamela, Sergio Reguilon and Giovani Lo Celso and their families over the festive season in breach of lockdown rules.

Moyes added: “Manuel understood he made a mistake, and he has apologised for it. He has made a donation to a food bank, and that’s a really good gesture.

“We have to be careful that everybody isn’t picking on football players.

“We will all know people who have broken the rules in their own way.”
