Pilgrims left Town

- By ROSS HEPPENSTALL at John Smith’s Stadium

RYAN LOWE raised a glass to Plymouth’s FA Cup victory last night as they saw off a youthful Huddersfield outfit to reach the fourth round for the first time since 2008.

Goals from Ryan Hardie, Panutche Camara and skipper Joe Edwards ensured the League One side’s progress over Carlos Corberan’s Championship hosts.

Corberan rolled the dice by making 11 changes and flooded his side with youth, fielding a starting line-up with an average age of just over 22.

They twice led in the first half due to Romoney Crichlow and Aaron Rowe’s first goals for Town, but Edwards’ 70th-minute strike proved decisive.

Lowe said: “It was a great performance by our lads – they were brilliant in everything they did.

“We counterattacked very well and scored three fantastic goals. I’ll watch the highlights on TV tonight with my lad.”

Town forged ahead early on through Crichlow’s glancing header from a corner, but Argyle levelled when Luke Jephcott’s clever pass allowed Hardie to fire in.

Rowe’s brilliant 20-yard shot flew into the top corner just after the half hour, but Danny Mayor crossed for Camara to rifle home from the edge of the six-yard box 10 minutes later.

After the break, a sweeping move saw Mayor reach the byline and cut the ball back to give Edwards a tap-in.

Corberan said: “We wanted to win to continue in this competition.

“Our ambition for the rest of the season is to be a more competitive team in the Championship.” HUDDERSFIELD: Hamer 6, Duhaney 6, Vallejo 6, Olagunju 6 (Diarra 77), Crichlow 7, Brown 7 (Jackson 77), Austerfield 6 (Camara 83, 6), Daly 6 (Bright 83), Rowe 7, Phillips 7, Jones 7 (Aarons 71, 6).
