TIGER BACK ON SONG FOR MEADE

- FAIRYHOUSE REPORT RYAN MCELLIGOTT

TIGER STROLL Sean Flanagan and Daly Tiger were surprise winners yesterday

A BACK to form Daly Tiger sprang a 20/1 surprise to land the featured Dan & Joan Moore Memorial Handicap Chase at Fairyhouse yesterday. The Noel Meade-trained winner lined up in the €75,000 contest looking to bounce back from a poor run at this track last month.

However, his previous victory in a red hot handicap at Punchestown represented a strong piece of form and he returned to that with a fine display.

Sean Flanagan’s mount was left in front when Chatham Street Lad clouted the last and he kept on well to finish five lengths clear of Pont Aven.

The victory ensured that Meade was winning this long established prize for the first time since 2002.

Earlier, Gordon Elliott introduced Teahupoo to Irish racing and he landed the four-year-old winner’s hurdle.

This French import looked a lucky winner as he was lying in a close second coming to the last where the odds-on Youmdor crashed out.

Youmdor probably would have won but there was plenty to like about Teahupoo’s performance up to that point and he looks a horse of real potential.

“We were probably lucky but our horse produced a nice performance all the same. He has a future and he’ll get further than two miles as well,” said Elliott.

Elliott later added to his tally as the Keith Donoghue-ridden Aramax rediscovered the form that carried to Cheltenham glory last March by springing a surprise in the beginner’s chase.
