OSBORN DREAMING OF A GREAT ESCAPE NOW

- BY NEIL MCLEMAN

BEN OSBORN is sleeping better since Sheffield United ended their nightmare start with a first Premier League win.

And the England youth star insists the Blades can still stay up — although the potential Great Escape must start by catching West Brom.

Chris Wilder’s team recorded victory in the FA Cup at Bristol Rovers and then took three points off Newcastle in their best week of a torrid season.

And before facing Tottenham today, Osborn (right) admitted: “It was pure relief. The training ground has been a bit of a brighter place this week.

“I have slept a bit better too. I am not going to lie, I think you have to try and get away from it as a player and it has been a lot easier.

“It is definitely a weight off our shoulders.

“And it just felt a lot sweeter because it had been so long. I don’t think I will ever take a win for granted again.

“This past week has given us a lift and it is something we can build on hopefully.” After Jose Mourinho’s team visit Bramall Lane today, United face two trips to Manchester in their next games. Wing-back Osborn, 26, said: “We need first and foremost to put a bit of a run together.

“I think it is quite amazing that we are not completely out of it already.

“But now we have one eye on the team above us.

“If we are at it in any game and have 11 players who are fully at it, we are going to give any team a run for their money.”

Wilder claims his three big young summer signings — Aaron Ramsdale, Rhian Brewster and Chelsea loanee Ethan Ampadu — will benefit from the improved team displays.

He said: “We don’t think we have signed mug players. These boys are going to play better in a team that can hopefully hit a bit of form — and show belief and confidence.”
