MO’S TOO OLD NOW FOR LIGA
HINT Salah mentioned the Spanish giants
MO SALAH has been told by Jamie Carragher that he is too old to seal a dream move to Spain.
The 28-year-old Egyptian caused a panic around Anfield last month when he suggested in an interview that he was open to joining Real Madrid or Barcelona after being overlooked as captain by Jurgen Klopp.
But, while Carragher understands the striker’s desire to test himself in La Liga, he believes cash-strapped Real and Barca would set their sights on Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland or even Salah’s strike partner Sadio Mane if they had the cash.
Carragher said: “Mo Salah is definitely one of those players who would look at his career and maybe want Barcelona or Real Madrid on his CV.
“Some players look at their career like that. I think Eden Hazard always wanted to go to Real Madrid at some stage.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if, a few years ago, when Mo Salah was mapping out his career, that is something he would liked to have done.
“But I think the situation now – financially and his age – means clubs don’t have that kind of money for him.
“You are talking in excess of £100million and I think Real Madrid and Barcelona would be looking at Mbappe or Haaland, or even Mane, ahead of Salah now because of his age. Those two clubs are not flush with cash and his contract still has some time to run at Liverpool.
“So I’m not fearful as a Liverpool fan that he is going to leave any time soon.”
Carragher believes Salah has suffered a drop in form – despite sitting at the top of the Premier League goal charts.
He has hit the net 17 times already and 13 of those have come as Liverpool look to defend the title.
Carragher believes today’s visit of Manchester United is the perfect time for Salah to get back to his best after going three league games without scoring.
He warned: “Salah has not been in great form of late, but that can be said of the whole team. Then you look at it and he is still the Premier League’s top scorer, so he’s due a performance and a goal.”
